Pure Tone Audiometry or PTA is a key test to asses the hearing sensitivity of an individual. This test is used to identify the threshold levels of an individual, enabling determination of the degree, type and configuration of hearing loss.
PTA assessment involves the peripheral and central auditory system. Pure Tone Threshold indicates the softest sound audible to an induvial at least 50% of the time.
Hearing sensitivity is plotted on an audiogram, the graph displays the intensity as a function of frequency
The degree of normal hearing is (0-25dB), within this range hearing is considered normal.
